What do we do in this Club?

The “OyA” Oil Tasting Club is launched by the Olive Grove and Olive Oil Interpretation Center. This strategic initiative is a pioneer in the world of extra virgin olive oil in the province of Jaen and in Andalusia, and is a further step in the line of work that the Center has been marked in the work of dissemination and extension of knowledge of the culture of the extra virgin olive oil.
The Tasting Club is a meeting point between amateurs and professionals to deepen the knowledge of extra virgin olive oil and enjoy the sensorial experience. It is a way to enjoy an activity together, with people who share the same interest, the EEVO. A community of lovers of Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Who could attend the club?

The Tasting Club is created to anyone with a minimum knowledge of oil tasting who is interested in the sensory world of AOVE: professionals in the olive sector and commerce, restaurants, hospitality professionals, students or university graduates, amateurs to the world of extra virgin olive oil and the general public.

Goals

  • Encourage culture and training of tasting of extra virgin olive oil.
  • Value the importance of sensory analysis in the AOVE.
  • Share opinions and experiences among people with knowledge in the matter, to enhance the training and improvement of the tasters.
  • Contribute to development and training to improve olfactory-gustatory skills.
  • Exchange of knowledge and experiences of new productions, situations, different national and international AOVEs.
  • Create new expectations, besides being a pioneering and dynamic activity in Jaén.
  • Value the premium AOVEs, to appreciate its excellence, complexity, versatility, importance of its use and its high gastronomic value.
  • Explore and enjoy the different sensory profiles of Premium AOVEs from different areas of Spain and other countries.
  • Meeting point between producers from different areas.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the sensorial abilities, to describe the plurality of sensorial nuances that the different Spanish and foreign oils present.
  • Contribute to the increase of the value of AOVE Premium in the restoration.

Organization

1. The organization is in the Olive Oil Association, along with our partner IADA Engineers.
2. There will be 6 tasting sessions based on an annual calendar (every 2 months).
3. In this established tasting session there will be an expert who could be: producer, teacher, researcher, blogger, chef, sportsman, etc., who brings knowledge of the world of olive oil.
4. Each tasting session will be monographic (eg AOVEs of the DO of Navarre, AOVES monovarietals of different producing areas, unusual defects, …) and will be directed by the expert or the organization.
5. For registration at the tasting club, initially 20-25 places will be offered.
6. An enrollment form will be filled out for membership to the tasting club. By joining the club, each member acquires a commitment of permanence of one year, counting from the date of the first tasting that attends.
7. Each tasting session will end in the kitchen of the Interpretation Center, where a chef will prepare a pairing of tapas with the samples tasted.

3 ª SESIÓN: CATA DE VARIEDADES

Fecha: 14 de Junio, 17:00 h.

Ponentes invitados: Brígida Jiménez, Doctora en Farmacia y Directora del centro IFAPA de Cabra y Angelina Belaj, investigadora del IFAPA Alameda del Obispo de Cordoba.

4 ª SESIÓN: ENTRENAMIENTO SENSORIAL

Fecha: 27 de Septiembre, 17:00 h.

Ponentes invitados: María Paz Aguilera, Licenciada en Ciencias por la Universidad de Granada y Doctora en Ciencias Químicas por la Universidad de Jaén. Jefa de panel y Responsable de Cocina Experimental con Aceite de Oliva en Citoliva.

5 ª SESIÓN: ACEITES DE JAÉN DE NUEVA COSECHA

Fecha: 22 de Noviembre, 17:00 h.

Ponentes invitados: Anunciación Carpio, Licenciada en Biología y Especialista en Aceites y Grasas por el Instituto de la Grasa de Sevilla.

Maridaje: Montse de la Torre, Propietaria y Jefa de Cocina del Restaurante Cantina La Estación de Úbeda.

6 ª SESIÓN: ACEITES NACIONALES DE NUEVA COSECHA Y CATA DE ARÓMATICAS

Fecha: 13 de Diciembre, 17:00 h.

Ponentes invitados: Marcos Reguera, Director Gastronómico en el Grupo Cerro Puerta y miembro de académico de la Academia Andaluza de Gastronomía y Turismo.

Rates

For becoming a member of the tasting club it will be necessary to fill out the registration form. Each member acquires a commitment of permanence of one year, counting from the date of the first tasting that attends.
Payment is made by bank transfer of a single fee of 360 euros (VAT included). Attendance of non-members of the club is allowed to individual sessions, as long as there are places available.
